Safety Aspect of New Forklifts

Throughout the past decades until now, forklifts had evolved sophisticatedly. Instead of a traditional key, it may be turn on via PIN or swipe card mechanism. There are many changes and improvements made to forklifts, with the concern to improve their safety aspects. For example, companies had came up with the idea of having pre-set speed limitations, operator presence sensor and ensuring drivers had done their daily routine check.

By having pre-set speed limitations, the speed limit will vary according to the environment that it is in (i.e. inside the building, outside the building, in pedestrianised area and negotiating a bend/turn). This helps to prevent driver from over-speeding.

The benefit of operator presence sensor is to ensure that the driver is seated in the forklift to operate the machine. Stated from source, there are incidents where the operator starts the machine by standing alongside and accelerate by their hand. This could result in accidents such as the foot being caught under the truck. Therefore the sensor ensures that the machine is not driven in an unethical way.

With the advancement of technology, new and better forklifts are born to provide consumer with a wider selection range and of specific uses.

Although forklifts may be equipped with safety devices, however, it does not totally eliminate the occurrence of an accident. The root causes of an accident can be accounted to human error. With wrong judgments and complacency, accidents are bound to happen. To prevent such incidents from occurring, company must invest in training sessions to train and coach the operators. This in turn helps to reduce possible damages and raise productivity.
